Food for Thought

Get off the nuclear warhead.

Warheads
I know that we can get a little paranoid, but this is a wild story. A B-52 plane accidentally flew 6 nuclear warheads over the middle of the US (see map). I am not sure how you do anything accidentally with a nuclear warhead, but you should read the article Here .

I only have one experience with a nuclear warhead. I was in Montana doing a construction job in the middle of nowhere. Montana host a huge percentage of the United States nuclear weapons. Montana would be the third largest nuclear armed country if they ever succeeded from the union. My grandpa actually worked in the nuclear silos. Anyways, they have more silos than warheads. So the military moves these warheads to keep other countries guessing. We drove down this middle of nowhere road and were stopped by some polite army personal. I look in the distance and saw a huge camouflage semi carrying a missile. Yepp, a nuclear warhead……

Homeless Sam

Dscn2306I met a homeless guy (I think he was homeless) on the streets in Indy while at council. I normally do not like to give to beggars. I think most Christians don’t like to give to beggars. We are afraid that they might buy drugs or alcohol with the money. As I walked to the field house it seemed that the homeless guys were getting little support. So I asked Sam (in the picture) if he does better during a Pacers game. The answer was a definite yes. I think it is sad when the world can out give us in a humanitarian sense. I gave to more homeless people than I have in years. If I had some small bills, or even water I would give it away. I just didn’t want to get labeled the guy who walked on the other side of the road….. BTW Sam says he has internet (lol), and so chime in if you want too…..

BarrybondsWhat do you think about Barry Bonds breaking the home run record. I grew up a SF Giants fan so my viewpoint might be skewed. However, now Barry Bonds is the greatest home run hitter ever. He is ahead of Hank Aarron and Babe Ruth. The only issue is that people question his authenticity because of steroid allegations.
My favorite Barry Bonds quote is “steroids cannot help hand eye coordination”. At the end of the day he is on top of the baseball world, and regardless if he cheated or not he is the man.
My question is “can you do the right thing the wrong way?” Honestly with a little more charisma people might not be so upset with him right now. My thought to you is this. We all can do some great things, but what does it profit us if people hate what we do. I am in the people business, and want to break records but not lose the favor of the general public in Greece.
Post some thoughts on ole’ number 25!!!!
BTW we saw him a couple years ago at Camden Yards in Baltimore. He ignored the entire crowd except for Jamie, Leah, Josh Wilaford and me!!! We got the head nod…..

4.5 miles can be a world away

Dscn2091Sometimes a few miles can be a world away. I have often thought this when working in my favorite housing area called Hall Manor in Harrisburg. I am not sure why we allow barriers to keep us from interacting with others that are only a few miles away. I want to be raw and honest with you on this post. I have had the opportunity to work in this housing complex for the past few years in the summer time, and I love it. I would do it weekly if I had the chance. In fact we ran into a few teens that were a part of our camp this afternoon. The reason why most individuals don’t work here is because of fear. Afraid of the violence? Afraid of the racial barrier? Afraid of the unknown? It is probably the unknown more than anything. Evan though it feels like a world away, here is what you would find. A ton of kids that just want to play with you. Some guys who would play some basketball, and just have some fun with you. People wanting to swim in the pool. A kicking freezy pop operation by an amazing grandma (I think I am going to be a repeat customer). And a whole lot of people who speak the same language and are open to conversation. I think the reason why I love it so much is the openness. In my neighborhood I would be skeptical of strangers coming in and loving on my kids. I would be skeptical of their motivations and message. Here in Hall Manor when you love on them, you speak a language that is understood by everyone there. I was proud of our kids sharing, playing, and stepping out into the unknown. It is in these moments you let go of fear and are changed for a lifetime. When was the last time you stepped into the unknown?

Fenerbahce

Dscn2022Yesterday at Cedar Point I had one of those interesting moments. Normally, when you walk into a amusement part you get bombarded by the people taking photos. I walked into the park with Jamie, the boys, and Chet and was expecting to get waylaid. However, I heard a bunch of guys yell “Fenerbahce”. My friend Chet’s wife visited Turkey earlier this year and bought him a Turkish jersey. Fenerbahce is a popular team their and all the photo guys came to us. Instead of taking the pictures of us, they wanted pictures with Chet. All day through the part we kept running into people from Turkey, and all of them loved to yell about “Fenerbahce”. World globalization is very interesting to me. You never know when people will get excited to see you wear their national jersey….

A text from India

My brother sent me a text from India that said the following...

"I saw 2 cows eating another dead cow yesterday.  That messes with my head, imagine what the Hindu people think about that"
